07. You learned hard lessons, prepare for 2025
Hey friends,
In this episode, we’re diving deep into the energies of late 2024 and how they are preparing us for the next chapter—2025.
We’ve all been questioning the systems around us—capitalism, government, societal rules—and recognizing that so much of what we've been taught doesn't serve us. Exhaustion and anger are real, but so is empowerment. In this episode, we unpack the spiritual, emotional, and societal lessons from 2024, represented by The Hierophant card. You’re not alone in feeling burnt out or disillusioned, and we’ll explore how to transform this energy into something that fuels you for the future.
We cover:
- The collective questioning and dismantling of oppressive systems in 2024
- Releasing the need to “follow the rules” and embracing your personal power
- Lessons from tarot, including the Nine of Cups, King of Cups, and Queen of Wands
- Celebrating the growth that comes from seeing behind societal illusions
- What to expect as we move into 2025, and why clearing your energy is essential
I’ve also just released a bonus episode over on Patreon, where I go even deeper into the energies of 2025 and how to prepare for the lessons ahead.

Hey, welcome back to sunflowers and stars, intuitive Tarot for the collective with me, your host, Fiona Fletcher Reid, so, so grateful that you have chosen to tune in today. I hope that you are having a good week so far, and this episode is coming out at the end of 2024 so we're going to talk a little bit about those energies.
But I also, I guess, wanted to let you know that it doesn't really matter when you listen to these episodes, because they will find you when you're supposed to hear them. So if you're you only just tuned in to sunflowers and stars and it's like the end of 2025, you're like, oh, I shouldn't listen to this one. Please, please trust me when I say that these energies are not only universal to everyone, but they are. They kind of transcend space and time without sounding a bit too delulu these messages, they'll find you when they're supposed to find you. So please don't, don't think that if you're listening to us in February or March, that it won't, it won't help you, because it still has the potential to give you information from the collective that can really help you and really deepen your connection to Source and just give you these little tasty nuggets of things that are going to help you connect deeper into yourself and and move on your own personal journey, whatever that looks like.
And if you're looking for some bonus content, I've also just released today a bonus episode in the Patreon community, which is all about the energy of 2025 so I will do a little bit of that in the next public episode, but we're going to dive deep into that and talk about the focus of 2025 and how we can harness the lessons that we've learned in 2024 and also what energies that we should be on the lookout for. So kind of hopefully given us a bit of a head start on what to expect. So if you're interested in that, the link for Patreon will be in the show notes. Please come and join us. It's a beautiful little space where we get to chat to each other about the readings and what they mean to us as well. Because this is a collective reading, which means it's not just me telling you what to think and how to act. I really don't want to be like that. I'm harnessing collective energies and communicating them. And this is a collaborative project.
So if you listen to a reading and you're like, Oh, this is what came up for me. This is the lessons that I've been learning recently, or these are the signs that I have noticed since I listened, or I pulled a card at the same time, and this is what, this is the message I got. I know there's lots of you that listen that do tarot and are psychic and have this really deep connection to the universe. So I welcome those insights. Please, please, please feel free to share them on the comments of the podcast. You can leave comments on Spotify now, which is really cool. There's probably been like that for ages, but I just didn't realize. And you can also leave comments on the Instagram posts or come into Patreon and talk to us there. But I really think that people can get a deeper reading when, when we open it up to have, like, an open discussion. So if you've been thinking that you want to share some of that stuff, just to let you know that that I'm all about that. So please, please, please share your wisdom when you feel ready.
But without any further rambling, let's get into the current energy the energy card that we pulled for 2024 to represent the year that we've just been through, was the hierophant. So this has been a year where you have found yourself questioning, challenging, being suspicious, rightly so. I think of the leaders who control your environment. So whether that's your government, whether that's your teachers, whether it's your spiritual leaders, whether it's your parent, academic institutions that you came through as a child or young adult, or are still going through your employers, capitalism, white supremacy, like there's been a real the energy has been us. And you looking at the stories we've been told, the world that has been built around us, and you have been like, is this really? Is this really the way it has to be? Do we really have to be in work from nine to five doing a side hustle in the evening, only seeing my kids for like, an hour a day, spending a huge chunk of my income on accommodation and food, and I've got nothing left to spend on my health care. I've got nothing left to spend on pleasure. Does it really have to be the way that we only have a two party race in the American government? It's like all these things that we just kind of take for granted. This has been a year of questioning all of that, and you have done that so deeply that as. Just want to take this opportunity to see I see you. I see how hard this has been on you, and I understand that right now you're probably feeling pretty exhausted, and that exhaustion comes from a lot of different things. That comes from the anger. There's been, there's been a lot of anger this year, and I'm sure you've felt it as you look at the systems that you're a part of and you and you realize that they are systems. You realize that they're not they're not natural. They don't have to be that way. I'm seeing an image of you bowing down to the systems, the government, your leaders, your your employers, and they're handing you a bowl, and then that bowl is one grain of rice, and you're like, I can feel the anger. It's like you've worked hard, you've been in service, you've done everything that these people you know, the person who's handing you this this food, they told you, if you work hard, if you do good in school, behave well, if you study hard, you know, save a portion of your income, and you'll be able to buy a house, you'll be able to eat and all this. And now you're like, seriously, I have worked my ass off, and you're giving me a grain of rice. There's so much anger around the injustice of the way the people and the systems and the kind of societal rules that you adhered to that have now not come to fruition in the way that you were promised. There's so much anger there so you're, I guess, just to say like I see that that is exhausting. I see that to realize that you are, in some sense, a victim. It's through no fault of your own. Can be very emotionally draining, because not only are you tired from all the hard work that you've put in towards this plan of whether it was, you know, a certain career or certain financial stability, or maybe like a vision of having a family that you you've been working towards, and, you know, you've worked really hard to get there. And this year, it's like you've realized that all that hard work couldn't have competed against the systems that are kind of set up for you to fail, because the systems just just bleed you dry like that. You know, capitalism just wants it wants your effort. It wants you to work, work, work, work, work, and then spend, spend, spend, spend, that's, that's what they use us for. And so not only are you tired from that system, but now there's this extra layer of exhaustion because you're all so kind of, there's a sense of humiliation here, of there's a shame, there's a real shame, of feeling that you've been taken advantage of. But I just want you to know that you're not to believe to blame for your situation you have been taken advantage of. Don't feel as though you should have known because everything is working against you, like, societally speaking, the universe is here to support you. But when we speak about society, things are generally set up to make things pretty difficult for us so and so that energy around questioning, I'm actually going to believe what my government official says on this subject, because they're saying they care. They're saying that they want to end the genocide in Palestine, and then I see the actions that they're performing, and those actions do not align with what they're saying.
So there's a deep, deep sense of mistrust that has grown over 2024 and that too can be exhausting, because it has put you into a state of hyper vigilance, where now you're starting to question, Who can I trust? I can't trust the people in leadership. I can't resist trust the systems that I thought were here to support me. So there's quite high as much as there's a kind of, you're getting this feeling of, I guess it's twofold. There's a sense of empowerment, of realizing that you shouldn't rely on the systems that you used to rely on. So now you're feeling empowered to kind of do things your own way, but also you can't do that in isolation. So there's a there's a feeling of wanting to be empowered and wanting to build a new world, but also not knowing who on earth is going to help you get there, because you don't know how to trust anyone now, because in the past, you took people at face value, and now you're recognizing that perhaps that hasn't panned out well.
And when we look at what we need to release from 2024 we've got the two of swords, and so we have to let go of this idea that there is a right and a wrong way to exist in this world. Darkness wants us to divide. All the harm that we see in the world is all about division. When we look at billionaires who are hoarding well, it creates a divide. Billionaires who hoard money and don't want to share that, they don't want to give it back out and to solve poverty and to work towards an equitable existence for everyone on Earth, they are creating division. They are creating division and hierarchies and. And perpetuating this idea that, Oh, well, if you wanted this money, you could just work for it. Sorry, that's not. People are set up to fail. That's not the way it works. Yes, we all have personal power, and we all have like I believe that we can do anything we set our mind to. But the reality is that certain communities, certain segments of society, are oppressed and don't have opportunities the way that other people do, and so we need to let go of this division of I look after myself and you look after you. Yes, there's a limit to what you can do to support other people, but we need to let go of this idea of individualism and division. We need to start working as a collective and we need to accept people unfortunately for the way they are. We can't continue to fight without accepting that what we see in others is possible in ourselves. You might think that you would never cause harm to another being, that you would never be violent or racist, but we have to start looking at the world as a collective energy. We're all connected, and that doesn't mean say that what other people have done is right, and we're not going to say it's okay, and we're not going to encourage it, but we have to accept that this is humanity. This is where humanity is at right now, and we have to accept we can't just cut off the behaviors and the actions that we don't like and that we don't want to see in the world.
We have to use our energy to kind of like override it. And I know that sounds, it sounds like toxic positivity, but that's not what it is. It's not it's not using light and power to silence darkness. It's just saying that darkness you can become light. Does that make sense? It's like talking to darkness through energy and saying, I'm light, your darkness, Let me shine on you and let me transform you. So it's not about killing the darkness or pretending it doesn't exist or shoving it in a corner. It's about you actually transforming that darkness into light.
And this division, I think, is never more present than on social media, you know, we see the world has become so polarized aggression and arguments and fight going head to head with this anger is not going to help, because all that's doing is taking the anger that we should be directing At the systems that have failed us, and we're fighting amongst ourselves instead of joining together and rising up like we need a revolution, and we can't do that when we're all divided. So, I mean, I don't know what, like, how to address that, like I'm I'm not saying that I understand how we're going to come together. I don't know how that's going to happen, but I just know that when we're all fighting between ourselves, it's not it's not going to work, it's not going to happen.
So there has to be space for, I guess, opening up. And this doesn't mean you specifically, but it just means within the collective, I think there has to be a space for us to open up, to have conversations with people who have opposing views and to understand why, like, how we all got to this place, because I have a hunch that's a result of the systems that have failed us. They've they've got us into a state of fear or anger about a certain other group of people, and we need to rectify that. We need to come together as a collective, open up to understanding why people have certain points of view, and to perhaps educate them, but also allow yourself to be educated. So I get that you have seen behind the veil this year, but just being aware that there are other people who have have seen different things from you, and so to be open to under understanding other people's points points of view. And that is what collective liberation is, is everyone is allowed to have their own experience. Everyone is allowed to have dignity and a sense of safety and access to a life that feels right and safe for them and everyone else.
And it's like it's going to as messy to get there like 2024 has been a hard year, and I don't I think things are going to get hard before they get better, and I don't take any pleasure in saying that, but I do also respect you enough to tell you what I really think is going on here, and that I do think we need to buckle up and get ready for a rough couple of years, and that there will be a lot more conflict in our day to day lives and on a global scale, but that. Doesn't have to mean that you lose your sense of compassion for other human beings. So don't lose that. Don't lose that. Even though you're angry at the world and you want things to be better, and you know things can be better, the only way we'll get to there is through compassion on a regular daily basis, throughout throughout your life and through the people that you meet.
So what we can celebrate from 2024 after getting a bit bit heavy there, I pulled the seven of swords, really, what to celebrate for you? As might feel at first glance, might feel like a lot of pain, what you need to celebrate is that you have now seen behind the illusion, or you've seen like it's like now you see, oh, the way I've been living, and what I've been led to believe is actually all fake, the illusion of society and how I'm supposed to behave and how I'm supposed to live my life, and all the habits that I've got to go through and all the societal little dances that I've got to go through of being extra polite to these certain people, and abandoning my sense of create creativity in order to go to work, and abandoning my needs in order to serve the patriarchy. You've realized that you've been doing a lot of behaviors on autopilot, and you've realized that you have a choice. You've realized that a lot of your suffering and a lot of your a lot of the things that you dislike about your life, or the things that you feel you lack in life, you realize that are kind of automated. They've been automated behaviors the result of automated behaviors that you have done because you've been told to do them, either subconsciously or consciously, and you've adhered to those rules and regulations in order to stay safe and in order to get the fulfilling life that you've been promised. But now you've realized I did all these things and and actually life, life is okay, but something feels missing.
And so you've seen behind this illusion, you've seen behind this illusion of following the rules in order to achieve the life you want, and that can be really hard, because you've you've seen all these truths and felt this. It's like a stomach drop moment. It's like the the floors dropped from under you, or you've gone down like an elevator really fast. It's like you've been brought back down to reality with a bump, like a real Whoa. My reality has shifted us like now I see now, okay, now I see that a lot of this stuff was the result of conditioning, the way I've behaved, the way I've acted, the things I've looked after, like the things that you've chased after.
Now you're like, I don't even want this. Like, this is, this is not making me happy. And so you might look back on 2024 as a year where you felt unfulfilled, and that that might feel like a failure to you, but actually, all you've done is notice the unfulfillment that had been building for a while, and if you hadn't noticed it this year, then 2025 would have been another year where you wouldn't have noticed it. So although it can look and feel like pain, and yes, there has been pain, and that pain is valid, feel it, allow it to be there, but it's a necessary pain. It's been a necessary realizing. It's like a necessary vision of you seeing things the way they really are the way they have always been, and so please take that as a celebration of sorts. In the same way that a funeral can be a celebration. It can be devastating because you've lost someone you love, but it can be a celebration because you got to live with that person that you loved. You got to have that person in your life, and that person had a huge impact on you.
So let 2024 be the year that you realized you didn't have to follow the rules anymore. Let 2024 be the year that you realized I get to decide where I go from here. I get to make my own rules. I get to break the rules. I get to change my mind about the life that I had built up until now. I get to say I'm not going to do that anymore. I'm not going to be in this relationship. I'm not going to subscribe to this gender norm that has been put on me. I'm not going to allow my boss to speak to me like that. I'm not going to work there anymore. I'm not going to adhere to the industry norms. I'm going to go to work with pink hair, even though I'm a lawyer, and people think that's unprofessional. This is the year where you realize that all the ways that you've felt restricted have been things that you can choose to override. You could override those rules and do things the way you want. And I think what you're realizing now is that up and up until now, you felt like the consequences of taking those actions were too great, and that you weren't able to handle them, and you've realized this year that actually you're willing to take that risk and you're willing to live with the consequences, because I. You know that the consequences, even though they might be emotionally difficult and they might involve grief and discomfort, you know that the only way to get what you want is to take that risk, and that the outcome could be just as wonderful as it is difficult.
And I don't know if you are aware of Chris Corsini. He is an awesome like astrologer, tarot reader. He does loads of awesome stuff on YouTube and on Instagram. And he spoke recently on a workshop about how your capacity for growth is equal to your capacity for release. And I think that quote is really relevant here to all the stuff in 2024 that you've had to let go of the way that you've been able to just let that go, even though, like you've probably clinged onto it, you're probably still clinging on to some of it, the way that you've let a lot of it just kind of slide away like a mudslide, like it's been so so cleansing for you. And I know that it might not feel like that. You might feel like it's being washed away, and you don't know what to do now, but it's you've created space. That's what you've done. It's your capacity for release. Is your capacity for growth. So I'm not saying it's going to be easy, but there is growth in process as we speak.
And so I'm briefly going to go over the three lessons that have been learned in 2024 and then each of these lessons, we're going to go in to in more depth in the Patreon episode, but I'll give you a brief overview here. So the three lessons that you learned in 2024 first, we've got the nine of cups. So this year, you you learned, possibly by force, that you had to, that you could see the benefit of slowing down. For some of you, this could have been a health situation where you were forced, you know, by like surgery or ill health or burnout, that you were forced to slow down and you didn't want to, but you've learned the lesson of coming out the other side of that and potentially having quite a like not having an enjoyable rest period, because a lot of the fear that we get around taking time off, whether it's from work or passion projects or family life like that. Rest comes with a lot of guilt and a lot of shame and a lot of frustration. So I don't know that you had a particularly enjoyable rest period, but the lesson that you learned as you came out of that rest period and and kind of got back into doing the stuff that you wanted to do was that you were then reinvigorated and you could see things through clear eyes. And this is potentially where you you saw this kind of behind the illusion. Thing was that you weren't seeing the world through fear and lack. And this this really scary burn out vision goggles that that everything feels scary. Everything feels like, I can't stop working, I can't like, starve. We won't be able to pay the rent, all that kind of stuff, which is obviously totally valid. And I spent a lot of my year like that too. But at the end of this forced rest period, you realized, Oh, actually, rest does really help. You don't want to admit it, but you were like, actually, okay, so, so that's the first lesson that you learned.
The second lesson was the king of cups. While you were in this rest period, you learned how to be still. Rest can be active, you know, we can be resting but still be out getting exercise. That can be rest for the brain, but what you learn to do this year was to be in stillness, and that is potentially why this year has felt really hard for you, because when we're still, that is when we truly face ourselves, when we when we stop, when we meditate, or when we maybe when, you know the kids go to school, or the kids move out and go to uni, then we realize we have to be with ourselves. It's like we have nowhere to hide from ourselves. And that can be really scary, because that's when we start to realize is this the life I want? Why did I make these decisions? Am I really fulfilled? So you this year learned to be still, and I know that that will have been very confronting, so I just want to say well done, and that now that you've learned to be still, don't let this habit stop, because the reason it was so hard this year was because you have been on the go for so so long that by the time you got still, there was a lot of stuff for you to face up to. There was a lot of stuff to look at, a lot of stuff to confront, a lot of emotions from like, years and years ago, past experiences, past trauma that you had. Had to be present with you didn't even you may not even necessarily be aware of these things. You didn't consciously think them through and journal on them or talk about them in therapy or express them, but you were present with the energy, and that is incredibly difficult to in a world where we have so many ways to tap out of our own energetic and emotional experience. We have so many effective ways to distract ourselves, through food, TV, through work, through relationships, through sex. Like there's so many ways to disconnect from like, what your soul is experiencing. This year, you learn to be still beautiful, very proud of you. Don't let that habit fall by the wayside. And it can be like once a day, where you just go, okay, setting a timer for two minutes and I'm just going to be still. And some days it will feel really hard. It will feel like you're thinking the whole time. It'll feel like you're ruminating, that you're agitating, that you're uncomfortable, you're itchy, you can't sit still. And then other days will be really blissful. It will be really enjoyable. The point isn't for it to be one way or the other. The point is just for you to be present in those two minutes, because that is you confronting what's going on. That is you being in your own energy and not diluting it with other people's, or ignoring it or silence in it, you're just being present, and it's so well done, and getting this far already really proud of you.
We'll talk a little bit more about that in the extended reading about how we can harness this energy for the focus of 2025 and then the third lesson for you was the queen of wands. So really, really interesting that we've got the queen of Wands and the king of cups here, because we've got the masculine and the feminine energy of two different suits that really complement each other. So I feel like that, like you've learned, even though it may not feel it this year, you've learned balance. Like you've you've put yourself back into it, an energetic balance, even though you've kind of done it in two extreme ways. So like the king of cups, which is stillness and emotional awareness, whereas the queen of wands is all about fiery passion and creativity. So they're they're quite not opposing energies, but they are very different. So it's just to see if you're feeling like, I don't feel very balanced. It's because you've been through the wringer. It's because things have been at extremes this year. And that very much speaks to the collective energy, like we were talking about the polarity of like someone having really strong opposing views to another. That is the way the energy is right now. And I get the sense it's going to be like that in 2025 too. So just to help you to be aware of that, that it's not it's not a feeling on your part. It's just things are trying to balance. Things are getting more and more extreme. You see that in the news every day, something comes out, and you're like, I can't believe this. I can't believe this. To the point where, after weeks and months and years of it, everything just feels normal and like things are crazy, and we're like, we don't even buy an eyelid. So I guess read that as part of your energy too, that do you have a really crazy day, really emotional, like, kind of just brush it off and be like, I'll be fine. Tomorrow. It'll be okay. It's just the way that energy is just now.
But anyway, your third lesson from the queen of wands was for you. I think realizing that you can't, you can't just manifest what you want from the universe without putting in any effort, is a realization that good things don't come easy. And I don't say that because it's a hard one to kind of come to terms with, and I think that's why it kind of speaks to this idea of we can't have one thing that's right and one thing that's wrong, like two things can be true at once. Capitalism makes us think that we have to work hard in order to succeed, and I don't think that's true, because that perpetuates the idea that we have to be burnt out and tired and exhausted, and that we have to rely on caffeine and sleeping pills to keep ourselves feeling in some sort of peace. I'm not talking about that kind of hard work. That's exhaustion, that's that's burnout, that is not that's working hard in order to serve a bigger system that doesn't have your needs in mind. But what I'm talking about is stepping up to the challenge of what it is you want to create in this life, and committing to the lifelong journey of always getting better at that.
Maybe it's like you're into gardening, and you wanted your garden to look a certain way this year, and it didn't. There's not really any way to fix that. Obviously, there's things that you can put on your plants and you can learn more, but it's going to be a lifelong project of every year, going to plant the sunflowers in a different spot. This year, this year, when I plant potatoes, I'm going to plant them a little bit later, and see how that works. Like this is all knowledge that you can get from books and online, but actually your personal hands on knowledge the only way to get the experience of a gardener who's gardened. 10 years is to do your own garden for 10 years. So whatever it is that you kind of have honed in on this year, or perhaps you've let go of a certain passion because you're like, you know what? I actually don't have enough of a love for this thing to for it to become something I practice every day. Maybe you realize actually, I like to paint, but I don't have to be the best painter, like I can just do it when I feel like it, and I'm okay with that. I think you've learned this, this lesson, this year of I can be an expert in whatever I want, and I can be I can master this creative pursuit, but only if I want to. And you don't have to be the master at everything you do, but if you want to be the master in a certain area. It takes time, it takes dedication, discipline. And I guess you're figuring out this year whether, like, where you want to put that energy, because you can't become a master of every single hobby that you pick up. And I think this year has been you perhaps rethinking, okay, if I, like, can only be a master in one thing. Like, what do I want to do? Like, where do I want to put my energy? Where do I want to focus my energy? And where fuels? Where do I feel most aligned? So that's the three lessons. Like I said, we'll go into them more in the Patreon episode, we're going to talk about how we can alchemize these lessons, how we can shift that energy and channel them all towards the main focus of 2025 haven't done that reason yet, so I'm not sure what the main focus will be. I'm looking forward to doing it after this. So final thoughts on the energy of 2024 is that we pulled the four of cups. And the message here is that you probably are looking back on 2024, and being like, I cannot wait to get this in the bin. You're looking back on it being like, I had such high hopes for this year I was going to do X, Y, Z, like, as you know, my fitness regime was on point in January. Like I thought I was going to get that promotion. So there has been so much loss this year, in terms of material possessions, in terms of loss of life. When we talk about collectively, there's been so much loss of faith, trust, hope. But I just wanted us to talk about that we have to acknowledge those losses and absolutely honor them and experience fully what those losses mean to us, whether that means writing about it, honoring the people who have lost, fighting for justice for the people who have lost their lives and their homes, we need to honor all that, but we also need to acknowledge that with all these losses, the universe has given us the opportunity to do better. It has shown us this is how bad things have gotten, and we need to pivot. We need to these energies can't or these things can't have happened in vain.
And so now is the opportunity for collectively, for us all to unite, and for us to no longer stand for the injustices that are happening, no longer accept the oppression of people and the so few people are benefiting from the destruction of our planet. And it can be so easy to see all this stuff and see it through a lens of hopelessness, but the sources telling us today no like all this energy is here for you to alchemize all these things are happening in order to show you the truth and to show you you have a responsibility and an opportunity to change things, to change things in your own personal life and on the collective and we've spoken about this before Episode Three, where we spoke about healing is your resistance. It can be easy to get overwhelmed with the state of the world and think I can't fix this, like I don't know how I'm just one person. If you want to know more about that, go back and listen to episode three, even if you listen to it already, go back and listen to it, because that is going to be a really important lesson moving into 2025 is that we can use our own spiritual, emotional, mental and physical healing as a tool for collective liberation, and we must. We must. We can't be the change unless we activate it within ourselves.
And something that I also wanted to mention was when this episode goes live, we're on a new moon. So this it's interesting to be on a new moon at the end of the year, I think gives kind of like full moon vibes for me, like kind of feels like everything's come to a head, but then it's over, but it will be around a new moon when this episode goes live, that means it's a great time for setting intentions. It's a time that's full of fertile energy. And in the Patreon, there's a New Moon Meditation in there that you can use. So if you want to play with the energies, and like maybe on New Year's Day, you want to set up like a nice little ritual for yourself and do a meditation and do some journaling. And you can also. Listen to the bonus episode that's for 2025 that would be, I would recommend that's a really powerful way to spend, like, a few hours or an hour in the first few days of January. I think that would be a beautiful way to set some intentions and really clear out what 2024 had to offer. Do a nice, kind of gentle but powerful reset for 2025 Anyway, that's all that I've got for you today. I really hope you enjoyed it. Hope you have a beautiful new year when it comes I will leave all the links for everything that I've mentioned in the show notes. I love you, and I'll talk to you soon. Bye.
